We received a call about a dog that looked like “a hairless bag of bones with pink skin”. It was an urgent situation and Palomo was in need of immediate help. We began with a discussion with Palomo’s owner. We explained that the conditions that Palomo was in, and the care (or lack there of) he was receiving was unacceptable. The owner eventually agreed to surrender him to us, but it was a challenge even to rescue Palomo. He was so scared and damaged inside and out. It was heartbreaking, and he was quite aggressive with our staff. Besides his behavioral problems, Palomo was malnourished, had mange, anemia and Ehrlichia. With care provided by NAC, local veterinarians, and a lot of love and patience from his foster home, Palomo was able to recover. His foster family adored him and worked with a private trainer to help him overcome his aggressive and fear and learn to be a very good boy. He was adopted by them and is living the dream as a spoiled only child. The happy spark in his eyes returned and he transformed into a handsome and loyal dog who will never be made to suffer again…
