Kira

Pure breed dogs are not exempt from abuse and neglect. Sadly, Kira was an example of that. This sweet young boxer pup was left to die by her previous owner. She was reported to us, and when we arrived, we found her in a terrible state. She was skin and bones, laying on the ground, and so weak she could barely move. This poor girl was starving to death, and we did not know why. She ate ravenously but could not keep anything down. After many tests, visits to specialists, and trips back and forth to San José, we were told she had a rare parasite that had formed tumors along her esophagus which were making it impossible for her to keep food down. We began her complicated treatment that included a special feeding chair. Kira had to sit up for eating and be held upright for 15 minutes after eating to prevent her from regurgitating. After 4 months in foster care, Kira was fully recovered and the transformation was simply extraordinary. She was soon adopted and is living happily with her new mama and furry sister.
